Working as a web designer in Kent means working in a very large, proactive, sometimes volatile but amazingly rewarding community. Last week some of the top web designers in the industry got together to discuss responsive web design and how the way forward should be tackled. This gathering of interested and proactive web designers met with some very unfriendly remarks on Twitter but all I can see they were trying to do was good. Good for the web design community and good for the web design industry as a whole. Any group of people that have the inclination to get together and discuss what to do next for the greater good of every other web designer deserve a pat on the back. I wish I could have been there to participate.
Why does the web design community need to discuss responsive web design?
Responsive web design is new, very new, and uses some very modern and ground breaking technology that not all browser vendors utilise. The web is becoming a unified place of content with many different devices viewing that content. Designing a different website to display the content in a different way on each device is no longer practical because of the wealth of different devices. So, we need another way to build websites and display content and responsive web design is the term most used to describe this new way of building websites.
By all accounts the day of discussion has been a success. We’re still waiting to see the full outcome to all questions raised on the day but the information coming out to the community so far looks good with proposals for new image formats and ways to deal with scaleable images at the top of the list. I’ll be keeping a keen eye on the proposals and the direction responsive web design takes. It’s one of the most exciting changes in website design in the last few years and will be an intrinsic part of how we all design websites in the future.
If you have a website design that needs to work across multiple devices and would suite a responsive web design build then give kc web design Kent a call today.
